Pitch-TV Nazis and their Huggle Buddies Crusade

The Christmas 2010 toy list has the Huggle Buddy down as a gift idea for the kids this season. I’ve never personally heard of them or seen any TV commercials - and I see a lot of kids TV commercials on a weekend between Scooby Doo and Garfield episodes.

The Huggle Buddies are prices at around £20 each - for what is effectively a square pillow with an animals head on and a strap to keep the pillow folded up.

A member of the Money Saving Expert forum posted about finding a cheaper alternative for half the price - called a Sleepy Time Pet. The title of the forum post mentioned the name of Huggle Buddies and this helped the individual page rank well in the search engine results for “Huggle Buddie” along with a few other sites around the same topic.

It seems a representative of Pitch TV - the UK licensed seller of the Huggle Buddy - has been trolling around any sites which rank well for comparing the Huggle Buddy and the Sleepy Time Pet and demanding that the blog post or forum post be removed from the Internet due to breach of IP rights.

Last time I checked it was fair game to review and compare products available on the UK market in order to educate a buyer before parting with money.

Mr Shalsons threat of legal action to anybody comparing their Huggle Buddy product cheaper alternatives such as the Sleepy Time Pet is ridiculous, and his belief that he can simply go around to all websites ranking well for his product name and threaten legal action puts Pitch TV in a bad anti-competitor light.

So if you are in the market for an animal shaped pillow for the kids this Christmas, and need to make your money go further be sureto take a look at the cheaper alternatives to Huggle Buddies.

Note: The Sleepy Time Pets may not be of like for like quality to the Huggle Buddy.
